Project VKN NIMHANS Chhattisgarh IMA ECHO 

Training, mentoring and hand-holding the non-specialist doctors as well as other counsellors to provide quality mental health and Addiction care in their own districts under District Mental Health Programe (DMHP)

 

 

OVERVIEW & PURPOSE

  1. Strengthen the Capacity to provide quality care in Mental health and Addiction in 27 districts of Chhattisgarh by digitally connecting with NIMHANS
  2. Accreditation and Certification of the medical officers and Counsellors under DMHP

OBJECTIVES

  1. Training of Non-specialist doctors to initiate DMHP
  2. Training of psychologist and Social worker under DMHP

METHODOLOGY

 

CONCLUSION

In a span of an year, NIMHANS could provide training, hand-holding, mentoring the non-specialist medical officers, Counsellors and successfully initiating the DMHP (District Mental Health Programme)  in 27 districts. Before initiating this training there were only one mental hospital at Bilaspur where all the people with mental illness has to be referred. Currently, each DMHP medical officers, psychologist and Counsellors are digitally connected to NIMHANS specialist team for continued hand-holding. Patient need not visit to far place mental hospital to get the care. Chhattisgarh government in discussion with NIMHANS  has arranged the necessary medications to treat mental illness.

There is an increased access to care for mentally ill people in their own district hospitals. This initiative need to continue for next two years and similar NIMHANS like Hub can be considered at Medical College or Central academic institute in Chhattisgarh
